Rise of the Planet of the Apes' First Full Trailer Revealed

The first official full trailer for this summer's Rise of the Planet of the Apes has James Franco, rampaging gorillas, pensive chimpanzees and more James Franco.

Call us shortsighted, but we here at always thought that humanity’s finest achievement was the Dagwood sandwich. Apparently, we were totally off base though, as our truly greatest discovery will be the ability to simultaneously cure Alzheimer’s and make gorillas like, totally super smart...at least according to the new, just-released trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

The first thing you’re likely to notice in the film’s first full trailer is James Franco dropping science as an actual scientist, and generally just Francoing all over the place. If you manage to notice a second thing, however, it’ll certainly be the fully CGI apes, designed by Peter Jackson-affiliated Weta Digital, the company responsible our favorite weird alien porn movie, Avatar.

Not too many Easter Eggs to speak of in this trailer, as it mostly just establishes the reboot’s plot. Fortunately though, director Rupert Wyatt seems to bringing along the same dark, murky suspense he made such great use of while chronicling the lives of modern-day Morlocks in his 2000 documentary Dark Days. And given the distinct lack of Mark Wahlberg and uncomfortably sexy Helena Bonham Carter apes, that seems pretty win/win to us.

What’s everyone’s guess as to the film’s inevitable last scene twist? We’re staying firm with our theory that Franco’s character has been a scheming lemur in a man-robot since jump street.

First Look at Disney's Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series

Marvel offers up the first shot of the web-head in action for Disney XD's upcoming animated series Ultimate Spider-Man.

One can never have enough Spider-Man, with Marc Webb's upcoming Andrew Garfield reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, or the famous Broadway train-wreck drifting in and out of the news.

Moved back to to 2012 likely to coincide with its feature film counterpart, Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon today webbed up our first look at the animation style of the wallcrawler himself, courtesy of Marvel Comics.

Besides the image, the news that J.K. Simmons will reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson from the Sam Raimi films, and the bootleg animation test making its internet rounds, we know relatively little about Spidey's next animated incarnation beyond its superior writing staff.

Paul Dini, Emmy-award winning writer behind Batman: The Animated Series and LOST, and Brian Michael Bendis will join Man of Action Studios to bring together the series. Man of Action has previously been responsible for Ben 10 and Generator Rex, powered by the creative team of Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle.

Bendis will serve as a consulting producer on the series, while Man of Action will direct the writing staff, generate and edit scripts while Dini will write the pilot and serve as Creative Consultant.
